Kudlyo The Black Swan Dreaming
Veronica Brodie and the Continuity of Kaurna History at Glanville and Le Fevre Peninsula
Research report prepared for the Lartelare Homeland Association, Sheridah Melvin, June 1994.
I had direct involvement with Sheridah Melvin in 1994 while she was writing this report, and accompanied her and a small group on site visits and a tour of Kaurna history in the Port Adelaide and Glanville area based on this report. Local First Nations history was brought to life, and enabled me to see the area in an entirely new way.
I believe this to be an important document for Adelaide and SA, and while there is reference to it online, the document itself is not accessible online - and should be.
For thirty years this has annoyed me, and I have been waiting for it to be uploaded. Now I have scanned it and made it shareable with this intent (pdf 7MB). This is Sheridah Melvin's work - I am not sure of her whereabouts, and have tried to locate her. There is no trace of her online, or in any records I can find.
Thank you Sheridah for introducing myself and others to an erstwhile hidden history of the area in which I grew up. It led me to read Veronica Brodie's biography, My Side of the Bridge, and a variety of other texts on Kaurna history.
